First time snowboarding next Friday…any tips on snowboarding that you would like to tell a beginner?
If it helps, I already have a little experience with skiing, but this year, for our yearly school trip to the mountains, I have decided on switching to snowboard. I also figure skate, so if that helps with anything. Is there any tips about snowboarding, like how snowboard, or how to stop? Any suggestions and answers are appreciated!
the most important part is knowing how to stop. when you first put on your board and your at the top of the hill it will be sideways. that is how you want your board to be when you stop. when you stand up try sliding down the hill slowly with your board sideways, lean back to dig the edge in so that it stops you. when you come to a stop you will probably fall backwards but no worries its just part of getting used to standing on the board. to go down the hill turn the tip if the board so that its pointing down the hill. to stop just push your back foot out and lean back slightly. just keep doing this till you feel like you have control of stoping. when you feel comfortable with that you can try carving, that’s when you turn back and forth in an s pattern. to turn on your toe side you have to push your back foot out and lean on your front foot with a little more of your weight. the best way to learn is to practice. you can read all you want but you will do a lot better by trying it, and when your not quite sure about something, just go for it. but don’t be stupid, stick to the small hills. good luck and have a good time.
